Think you can survive a zombie apocalyspe?

How long do you think you would last in the Zombie Apocalypse? According to students from the University of Leicester Department of Physics and Astronomy, you wouldn't last too long. These students applied the properties of a zombie apocalypse to a real life disease simulator called an SIR model and discovered that all of humankind would be wiped out in a mere 100 days.The SIR model then considers the rates at which infections spread and die off as individuals in the population come into contact with each other. The students applied properties to the zombies and put in stages of the infection. (S) for susceptible population, (Z) for zombie population, and (D) for dead population. The result was everyone is dead within 100 days.

However, there is hope. Originally the students did not account for other variables like humans fighting back and people having kids during the Apocalypse. Also, the students factored in that survivors would become more experienced in avoiding zombies as time goes on. After accounting for these possibilities, the students concluded that the zombie population would wipe out and humanity would begin to rebuild.
