Tennis

Tennis

Tennis is a very tactical sport. Technic is very important. The technic behind tennis is based purely on physics. Every shot has different characteristics.

The topspin shot is usually a stronger shot, but thanks to the spin, it stays in play. The topspins allows it. The balls spins forward and thanks to the friction with air, it falls back towards the ground. Once it hits the ground, this shot has a kick to it which allows it to bounce up. The spin on the ball allows that action when the ball strikes the ground.

An other shot is the slice shot. This shot has a sort of backspin which allows it to decelerate and allows it to stay in the air longer. When the ball strikes the ground, the spin has an effect on the bounce. The ball does not travel very far from the area it first strikes.

Their are also side spins which creates an effect on the trajectory and bounce of the ball. The ball travels with a curved trajectory. Once the ball strikes the ground. The ball will bounce in the direction of the curve.

Those are the major shots used by most tennis players. The action on the ball is created by the way the player swings his racquet. Without air, all these action would be impossible to perform.
